New cases of HIV diagnosed in Hungary 2006-2022
In 2022, 224 new cases of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) were diagnosed in Hungary, a considerable decrease from the peak of 271 cases in 2014 and 2015. However, the number of cases has generally risen over the provided time interval from a low of 81 cases in 2006.
Cases of AIDS in Hungary
The advanced stage of the virus is called acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS). The cases of AIDS has increased alongside the rise in the number of HIV cases, going from 22 AIDS cases in 2006 to 48 in 2021.
European situation
Among men, the number of new HIV cases has increased in Europe between 2008 and 2015, before falling over the following years. Over the same period, the number of cases among women was considerably lower. The demographic with the highest number of new HIV cases in 2022 in Europe, was found between men aged between 30 and 39 years at over 7,000 cases.
