Additionally, the source defines a special purpose vehicle (SPV) as follows: "A financial institution that takes on assets and/or credit risk in the context of a securitization transaction and issues securities, units of securitization funds, other debt securities and/or financial derivatives or is the owner of underlying assets".
The securitizations mentioned, impact the MFI balance sheet and "are 'true sale' or classic securitizations". In the case of securitizations without impact on the balance sheet, the underlying assets are still on the bank's balance sheet but the credit risk on the assets is transferred to the SPV.
