Between 2016 and 2017, around 13.3 percent of countries in Latin America and the Caribbean were affected by a moderate volatility of general food prices, while 3.3 percent experienced rather extreme price movements. Food price volatility particularly affects developing economies, as it can pose a threat to food security and the livelihoods of the most vulnerable people.
