Level of trust when sharing data digitally in Sweden 2018, by data receiver

Swedes trusted mostly banks regarding personal data handling that they shared digitally as of 2018. To be precise, 68 percent of the respondents to the survey conducted in February that year reported to be trusting banks in this regard. The second most trusted authority type in the country seemed to be the public sector institutions, according to 46 percent of the Swedes. Ever since the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) was implemented in May 2018, it has caused different reactions. When being asked whether GDPR had an impact on their sense of security to share personal data online in 2019, as many as 78 percent of Swedes answered that it had made no difference. In contrast, 17 percent felt more secure.

 How many Swedes know of GDPR?

   The majority of the Swedish population, 63 percent, had heard of GDPR by March 2019 and only ten percent had not heard of it. However, nearly one third of the interviewed residents had heard of the new regulations but did not know exactly what they consisted of. The Swedes who knew what GDPR was were 63 percent.

 GDPR in Europe

   Representatives of the European tech community were asked about their opinions on the impact of GDPR on consumers in 2018. 60 percent agreed that the General data protection regulations were good for European consumers, whereas 16 percent disagreed with the statement. However, there were numerous cases of non-compliance to GDPR on the continent between May 2018 and February 2019. The data breach notifications amounted to nearly 65 thousand occurrences.
