The source notes 1072 unique prepackaged foods have been sampled. For the product choice, "consumption volume of the foods were not taking into consideration." Moreover the source states, in order to compare the products "for every product group approximately ten different, precisely described and well-defined product types were sampled from varying retailers."
Both store brands as well as other brands have been used in the sample, according to the source. The same products were used in 2015 and in 2011, but whenever this wasn't possible, the source says it used "a comparable product"
