In 2018, approximately 250 billion euros worth of transactions were made in the Netherlands using debit cards. That year, there were approximately 265 million debit cards in the country. According to the Dutch Central Bank (DNB), approximately 55 percent of all Dutch consumers have a credit card in his or her possession. The use of debit cards, however, is much more accepted as a payment method.

Supplementary notes
The source lists that transaction costs, commission and interest are not included. Up to the second quarter of 2014 the figures relate solely to euro-denominated transactions between account holders (irrespective of their place of residence) of banks in the Netherlands. Foreign-currency-denominated transactions between residents are basically reported as cross-border payments. The source records all transactions between Dutch account holders (irrespective of their place of residence), regardless the currency used for the transaction.
