Number of employees of SVT 2009-2023
In 2023, the Swedish public television and radio broadcaster Sveriges Television – abbreviated as SVT – employed 2,415 people. This marks a small decline compared to the previous year.
SVT – one of the leading television broadcasters
Sveriges Television belongs to the main television broadcasters in Sweden. Based on the revenue, SVT was the second-largest TV company after the advertised-financed Viaplay Group (formerly Nordic Entertainment Group) in 2021. The other two leading broadcasting enterprises in the country include TV4, that is owned by Bonnier Broadcasting, and C More Entertainment.
How does SVT fund itself?
Until the end of 2018, Sweden’s population had to pay an annual license fee to receive public radio and television, such as Sverige Television’s channels. That year, the amount was 2,400 Swedish kronor per household. Since 2019, the public broadcasters Sveriges Television, the Swedish Educational Broadcasting Corporation, and Sveriges Radio get their funds through an individual fee charged through taxes.
