In comparison to the rest of Europe, Finland had the fourth-highest rate of kidney transplants in 2021. There were 48.7 kidney transplants per million population carried out in the country in 2021. Furthermore, Finland had a liver transplant rate of 13.6 per million population, placing it as the tenth-highest in Europe.
Waiting on the transplant list
In 2021, there were 774 patients waiting for a kidney transplant in Finland, a decrease from the number waiting in 2019. Although, the number of patients requiring liver, lung or heart transplants has increased since 2019.
