In 2019, unemployment figures were higher in the male population and especially in the region of Wallonia. For instance, in 2019, about 65 thousand men were unemployed in Wallonia. On the other hand, unemployment figures were at their lowest in the female population and the Brussels-Capital Region. In 2019, nonetheless, 30 thousand women were unemployed in the Brussels-Capital Region.

* Statistics Belgium defines an unemployed person according to the criteria of the International Labour Organization. An employed person is a person aged 15 years or older who during the reference week was without a job, a person who was available for a job and started work within 2 weeks after the reference week, or a person who was actively looking for a job during the previous 4 weeks, including the reference week.
