The annual number of marriages in Sweden was between 90,000 and 100,000 from 2012 to 2019. However, the number of new marriages in Sweden dropped to around 70,000 in 2020 and 2021. This must be seen in light of the COVID-19 pandemic, as the restrictions made it nearly impossible to celebrate a wedding with several guests. In 2022 and 2023, the number of new marriages was above 80,000.
