Value of M&A transactions globally 2015-2023, by target country

The value of merger and acquisition (M&A) deals in the United States in 2022 and 2023 decreased significantly compared to the peak recorded in 2021. Between January and December 2023, the value of M&A deals in the U.S. reached 1.5 trillion U.S. dollars. M&A deals targeting Chinese companies also decreased in value, going from 575 billion U.S. dollars in 2021 to 294 billion U.S. dollars in 2023.
