In 2022, the amount of coal used in the generation of heat totaled 6,000 metric tons. This figure has remained stable since 2015 after dropping significantly from 272,000 metric tons in 2014. The UK has set a deadline of 2024 to phase out coal from to phase out coal from Great Britain's energy system.
