Average theatre ticket price in the United Kingdom (UK) 2013-2018
Ticket prices rise, audience numbers decline
The number of performances at UK theatres has increased in the last two years, although audience figures have been down. According to the same analysis of ticket sales by the UK Theatre association, the number of tickets sold declined in 2016 and 2017 before showing a small recovery in 2018. Regional theatres have especially struggled with audience numbers in recent years, and many have been forced to put up ticket prices to account for the loss. Nevertheless, average tickets prices achieved have managed to increase at a relatively stable rate overall, giving some hope for the future of national theatre.
UK theatre market
Theatre is a major part of the UK’s arts and cultural scene. The theatre landscape includes regional, mostly publicly funded theatres nationally, and the West End theatre district in Central London, where the highest concentration of commercial theatres can be found. Besides Broadway, the West End is one of the famous theatre districts in the world.
