This statistic illustrates the total capital shortfall of European banks against fully phased in EU requirements as of 2015. The largest total capital shortfall was seen in the large group 1 banks, which had a total capital shortfall of just over fifteen billion euros greater than the next largest figure. On the other hand, the medium group 2 banks had the smallest total capital shortfall at just under two billion euros.

New EU requirements on regulatory capital are being phased in and will take full effect from 2019.
Bank types: Group 1 = Internationally active banks with over 3 billion euros Tier 1 capital. Large group 2 = banks with over 3 billion euros Tier 1 capital. Medium group 2 = banks with equal or less 3 billion euros Tier 1 capital. Small group 2 = banks with equal or less 1.5 billion eurosTier 1 capital.
