Hospitalization rate after suicide attempts in the United States from 2008 to 2012
(per 100,000 population)
* NSDUH respondents who attempted suicide in the past 12 months were asked if they had been treated medically as a result of a suicide attempt, and subsequently those answering “yes” were asked if they had
stayed in the hospital overnight or longer because of a suicide attempt. Respondents with unknown suicide information were excluded. The number per 100,000 U.S. population estimate was rounded to the nearest
hundred for disclosure reasons.
Rate calculations were performed in the customary manner for each dataset; methods may vary.
