This statistic shows the number of households owning a smart television device connected to the internet in Germany from 2014 to 2020. In 2020, roughly 17.2 million German households owned a connected smart TV, an increase compared to the previous year at 15.12 million households.

Up until 2017, the survey question was posed as follows: "Haben Sie die Möglichkeit, Videoinhalte aus dem Internet direkt auf dem Fernseher anzusehen, z.B. mit einem Smart TV, also einem internetfähigen Fernsehgerät?" (Translation; Do you have the option to watch video content from the internet directly on your TV, e.g. with a Smart TV, i.e. an Internet-enabled TV?)
From 2018 onwards, the question was posed as follows: "Handelt es sich bei Ihrem Fernsehgerät/ Ihren Fernsehgeräten um ein Smart TV-Gerät, also ein internetfähiges TV-Gerät?" (Translation; Is your TV / TVs a Smart TV, i.e. an Internet-enabled TV?)
