This data presents the share of private TV households smart TV set connected to the internet in Germany from 2013 to 2020. In 2020, roughly 44.7 percent of German households had connected a smart TV set, an increase from the previous year at 39.3 percent.

The figure for 2020 refers to a base of 38,52 million TV households in Germany.
Only smart TVs that were actually connected to the internet are considered in this statistic. Until 2017, the survey question was phrased as follows: "Do you have the ability to view video content from the internet directly on your TV, for example with a Smart TV, i.e. an internet-enabled TV?" (Original question in German: "Haben Sie die Möglichkeit, Videoinhalte aus dem Internet direkt auf dem Fernseher anzusehen, z.B. mit einem Smart TV, also einem internetfähigen Fernsehgerät?") From 2018 onwards, the question was instead phrased as follows: "Is your TV a Smart TV, i.e. an internet-enabled TV?" (Original question in German: "Handelt es sich bei Ihrem Fernsehgerät/ Ihren Fernsehgeräten um ein Smart TV-Gerät, also ein internetfähiges TV-Gerät?")
