The value of textiles imported to the United Kingdom (UK) fluctuated over the time period under consideration, with a noticeable increase during 2020. In the second quarter of 2023, the value of imported textiles into the UK amounted to approximately 1.5 billion British pounds.
Textile comes to the UK from Asia
Asia and Oceania are important markets for clothing imports to the UK and dispatches from this continent holds the highest value among UK’s import partners. This picture is not peculiar only to the UK either. Indeed, China, India, and Vietnam currently have significant shares in the world export market for textiles.
Turkey: a key import partner for textile
One of the key locations where the UK imports textile is much closer to home: Turkey. In 2019, 2.33 billion U.S. dollars worth of textile left Turkey for the UK. Turkey’s textile trade with the UK is no thin thread. United Kingdom is Turkey’s second biggest export market for textile after Germany.
