This statistic displays the total number of hospital stays among super-utilizers and other patients in the United States in 2012, by payer. During this time, Medicare super-utilizers between the ages of 1 and 64 years accumulated some 865,000 hospital stays. A relatively large proportion of the United States' health care resources are consumed by a small percentage of the population, where about a quarter of the country's health expenses are incurred by one percent of the population.
