As of the end of 2023, there were approximately 382,000 POS terminals reported to be in Portugal. This number has decreased from the previous year, when there were around 408,000 POS devices in the country. While cash usage still amounts to 37 percent of retail payments (2019), this type of payment has become less popular over the last five years.
