The amount of issued payment cards in Latvia from 2000 to 2020 increased significantly from about 540 thousand cards in 2000 to 2.52 million cards 2008 and has slowly decreased since then. The number of cards with a payment function that were on the market in 2020 amounted to approximately 2.18 million. Half of all payments in Latvia are done in cash money (53.1 percent in 2019).
