Leading types of spirits consumed in Canada 2014-2018
Vodka was forecast to be the most consumed spirit in Canada, with consumption set to reach around 4.8 million nine-liter cases in 2018. The second most consumed spirit was expected to be rum at approximately 3.2 million nine-liter cases.

Most vodka is made from fermented grains, after the fermentation process it is then distilled to increase the alcohol by volume (ABV) to between 30 and 40 percent. The product originated from Poland and Russia according to records from the eighth and ninth-centuries. In 2017, worldwide sales volume reached around 340 million 9-liter cases.

Over half of these sales were from Canadian-made products, and the majority was sold in Ontario. Sales in Ontario totaled around 494 million Canadian dollars in 2016/17.
