The statistic shows the development in the European private equity buyout volumes between 2009 and 2013. The increase in both primary and secondary buyouts could be observed between 2009 and 2011. As of 2011, the number of deals amounted to 866 for primary buyouts and 263 for secondary buyouts. In 2013 these figures decreased to 669 (primary) and 243 (secondary).

Private equity buyouts are those investments that target companies, which are traded publicly, in order to make them private. This results in delisting such companies of public equity. Secondary buyout is a purchase of the private equity company by another private equity company.
