A study from 2024 on the music retailers in the UK showed that in 2023 only 122 specialist chains were selling music. In terms of supermarkets, 1,072 stores also had music in their product line, while 461 independent stores were selling music. Compared to the previous year, this meant an increase in independent store and a decrease in supermarket sold music.

retailing/stocking). (NB Argos, Homebase and Burton withdrew from Audio and Video retailing).
Supermarkets include Asda, Morrisons, Sainsbury’s (including Locals*), Tesco (including Metro and Express*), Waitrose*, Co-Op*, and One-Stop* (*That sell audio and video titles). Supermarkets combined with multiples in July 2022.
