Private equity firms and corporate M&A stakeholders are motivated by very different reasons when they decide to acquire a company. In 2020, senior executives at European private equity firms cited distressed or turnaround opportunities as their primary targets for acquisitions over the next 12 months, whereas senior executives at corporates were mostly driven by the desire to acquire new technologies or corporate venture capital investment.
