This data depicts the revenue of the book market in Germany from 2005 to 2023, and projections for 2024 to 2028. The following categories were considered: reference books and nonfiction, textbooks and schoolbooks, and fiction (print and e-books). For 2024, PwC had forecast a revenue of roughly 7.7 billion euros for the fiction segment.

The figures for 2024 to 2028 are projections. The figures for 2005 to 2017 were retrieved from previous report editions.
¹ From 2017, the source makes a more refined distinction between the consumer and professional books segments. This means that previous year's figures are only comparable to a limited extent. The source does not show any values for professional books (technical and non-fiction books) in GEMO 2023-2027 and GEMO 2024-2028. The values come from previous year's publications.
Fiction (or consumer) also includes children's and young adult books. From GEMO 2022-2026, this also includes guides and non-fiction books, previously these were classified as non-fiction and specialist books.
Non-fiction and specialist books (or professional) contain specialist books from the fields of humanities, art, music, natural sciences, medicine, IT, technology, social sciences, law and science. (from 2017)
