In 2020, the highest-value merger and acquisition (M&A) deals carried out in Africa and the Middle East occurred in the energy, mining and utilities industry. The value of deals carried out in this sector amounted to just under 40 billion U.S. dollars. This was followed by the financial services industry, wherein M&A deals worth approximately 28.7 billion U.S. dollars were completed. The third place ranking is completed by the industrials and chemicals industry, with just over eight billion U.S. dollars in M&A transactions.
