After slowing down in 2020, global merger and acquisition (M&A) activity bounced back in 2021. In North America, for instance, M&A deals reached a value of 3.9 trillion U.S. dollars, compared to 2.2 trillion U.S. dollars in 2020. In 2023, M&A deal value decreased again. North America remains the leading region in terms of M&A deals value, followed by Asia Pacific and Europe.
