At that moment, there were 1,576 beds for current patients in place, while there were 2,122 beds needed. The Ebola virus causes extremely severe hemorrhagic fever and is considered a Risk Group 4 Pathogen by the World Health Organization (WHO). The health sector will focus on cross-border regions to strengthen treatment, testing, and contact tracing.

Doctors Without Borders has claimed that international governments must be held accountable to their promises to help the affected in West Africa. The organization claims that a large deployment of resources from regional governments and aid agencies are needed. Even CDC is sending their workers to Doctors without Borders for specialized training on how to manage and prevent the spread of Ebola. Health workers require the proper training as well as equipment in order to deal with this disease.
As of September 18, 2014, there were 942 cases of Ebola in Guinea and 2,710 cases in Liberia, of these cases, there were 601 and 1,459 deaths, respectively. Local communities in the West Africa region are still frightened about the diseases and are suspicious of the health facilities. Lack of information and education about the disease has also lead to people attending funerals without infection-control measures. Controlling the spread of Ebola between borders also remains important.
