Natural gas imported from Russian multinational energy corporation Gazprom accounts for 36 percent of all natural gas consumed in Europe. With indigenous production having declined in the past few years, the region has become more and more reliant on imports via pipelines and liquified natural gas. The latter made up 21 percent of actual consumption in 2019. Germany is Gazprom's main customer country.
