As of that moment, 66.8 percent of total inpatient surgeries occurred in hospitals within highly integrated health systems. These types of hospitals own or contract with at least one acute-care hospital, one physician component and one other care component.

Hospital data are based on all short-term, acute-care, nonfederal hospitals. Average occupancy and average length of stay represent only the
acute-care portion of the hospitals’ occupancy. All data are as of December 31, 2014.
