In 2009, independently published albums accounted for 18.6 percent of album sales, and that figure increased to 27 percent in 2015, followed by a decrease to the level of 22.6 percent in 2016. However, independents increased their share in a singles market in 2016, mainly due to success of Major Lazer, and the release of Adele’s 25 tracks as singles.
