This graph displays U.S. Highway Trust Fund revenue in 2015, by revenue origin. The tax on gasoline contributed some 24 billion U.S. dollars to the total Highway Trust Fund revenue that year. The Fund was initially established in the late 1950s to finance the United States Interstate Highway System and other transportation projects.
