In 2011, there was a price spending growth in branded medication of 18.3 billion U.S. dollars. Similar to past trends, the net prices of protected products, without the inclusion of discounts and rebates, are increasing.

Reported price growth is dollar growth that is driven by invoice price changes and excludes rebates and contract pricing agreements. Brand invoice price growth contribution is the contribution to market growth and does not reflect price growth rate. Net price growth is based on comparison of company reported net sales and IMS reported sales at invoice prices from wholesaler transactions.
