This statistic shows the confectionery share of snacking occasions in the United Kingdom and Ireland 2014, by demographic segment. According to the survey, 26 percent of snacks eaten by young adults were confectionery, while only 16 percent of youth (11 to 15 year olds) snacks consumed were confectionery. It should be noted that the survey used data on youth snacking occasions that was recorded by parents rather than the children themselves. Other demographic segments include those with no children, young families, established families, those now child free and those over 60.

* Research was conducted in two phases as follows:
Qualitative: four focus groups with 16-35 year olds in Ireland and several online discussion groups in the UK, with 56 respondents broken down by life stage and region.
Quantitative: online survey across Ireland and the UK with nationally represetative sample of 3,000 respondents, plus additional data from mums recording a 'snacking' diary for kids aged 10-15 years (= 4,886 snacking occasions).
The source states that findings between Ireland and the UK were very similar and therefore outlined figures are an average across both markets. In total the data covers 12,244 snacking occasions.
