In 2019, 17 percent of respondents from England reported they strongly disagreed with the idea that people should be allowed to use their cars as much as they like, even if it causes damages to the environment. In addition, a further 39 percent disagreed with the statement.

Until 2017, questions regarding transportation and climate change were asked as part of the British Social Attitudes (BSA) survey and included respondents from the whole of Great Britain. From 2019 onwards, questions were asked as part of the National Travel Attitudes Study (NTAS) for respondents from England. Figures from previous years were adjusted to reflect answers from English respondents.
