In 2022, the United States' reported consumption of ferrosilicon (75 percent) for the production of cast irons amounted to 24,700 metric tons.
Silicon alloys and metals are important in various industries. Ferrosilicon is commonly used in ferrous foundries and steel industries. Silicon metal is often used for aluminum, aluminum alloys, and the chemical industry. Silicon is also often used for semiconductors in solar panels, computer chips, and as a part of the automotive industry.

* The miscellaneous and unspecified silicon metal production figure and the cast irons silvery pig iron production figure were withheld in order to prevent disclosing proprietary company data.
Silvery pig iron: typically 18 percent silicon content but ranges between 5 percent to 24 percent silicon content.
Ferrosilicon: typically 48 percent silicon content but ranges between 25 percent to 55 percent silicon content; includes briquets.
Ferrosilicon: typically 76 percent silicon content but ranges between 56 percent to 95 percent silicon content; includes briquets.
Silicon metal: typically 98 percent silicon content but ranges between 96 percent to 99 percent silicon content.
Miscellaneous silicon alloys: typically 48 percent silicon content. Primarily magnesium-ferrosilicon but also includes other silicon alloys.
Silicon carbide: typically 64 percent silicon content but ranges between 63 percent to 70 percent silicon content. This does not include silicon carbide for abrasive or refractory uses.
No figure means that no data was available or that it was included in other end use products, to avoid disclosing company proprietary data.
Data includes estimates.
