Heavy construction in the U.S. – additional information
Heavy infrastructure construction revenues in the United States have declined from 47.2 billion U.S. dollars in 2008 to 44 billion U.S. dollars. Under the North American Industry Classification System (NAICS), the heavy and civil engineering construction subsector refers to establishments that are primarily responsible for the construction of entire engineering projects, such as dams and highways. It is expected that some 112 billion U.S. dollars in value of highway and street construction will be implemented in the country by 2023. The sector also refers to specialty trade contractors that produce specific components of these projects. New work, additions, alterations, and repairs are all included in this subsector. The U.S. government expects civil engineering construction expenditures in the country to grow consistently.
One of the leading domestic heavy contractors in the United States is the Walsh Group. The company generated 2.89 billion U.S. dollars in revenue in 2018. The Chicago-based company has been in construction since 1898 and operates through two subsidiaries, the Archer Western Contractors and Walsh Construction. Since its foundation, the firm has been a family-held business. The Walsh Group has experience with a wide variety of infrastructure constructing including wastewater and water treatment plants, rapid transit, and highway systems.
