The shares of weekly household expenditure on recreation and culture in the United Kingdom were lower in the 2022 fiscal year compared to 2020 due to the impact of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. Over that period, households in the eighth disposable income decile group recorded one of the highest drops in spending. Between April 2021 and March 2022, those households spent an average of 9.4 percent of their weekly expenditure on recreation and culture, reporting a decrease of 3.3 percentage points from 2020.

Figures show weekly expenditure of households divided into decile groups, ranging from households with the lowest ten percent gross income up to those with the highest disposable income. Data can be found under Table 3.2 in the excel sheet.
Recreation and culture includes: audio-visual, photographic and information processing equipment (e.g. audio equipment and accessories, CD players, TV, video, computers, photographic and optical equipment); other major durables for recreation and culture; other recreational items and equipment, gardens and pets (e.g. games, toys, hobbies, computer software and games, equipment for sport, camping and outdoor recreation, horticultural goods, garden equipment, plants, pets and pet food); recreational and cultural services (.e.g sports admissions/subscriptions, cinema, theatre, museums, TV/cable subscriptions, TV licenses, the internet, development of film/photo, gambling, and miscellaneous entertainments).
