This statistic deals with the source of the majority of wealth among wealthy Americans in the United States in 2014, by age. In 2014, 28 percent of the wealthy individuals interviewed aged between 18 and 33 years stated that they had inherited the majority of their wealth, whereas 78 percent of 50 to 68 year olds interviewed stated they earned the majority of their wealth through income from work, investment, real estate or through the sale of their business.

Age of respondents: Average 53 years old
-Age 18-33: 13 percent (Gen Y or Millennials)
-Age 34-49: 22 percent (Gen X)
-Age 50-68: 45 percent (Baby Boomers)
-Age 69+: 20 percent.
- 57 percent men
- 43 percent women.
The 680 people interviewed for this nationwide survey were high net worth or ultra high net worth individuals.
