This fat removal technique outpaced other common surgeries like breast augmentation and tummy tucks, which were the second and third, respectively, most performed plastic surgeries in the U.S.

While liposuction topped the list for both genders, men and women showed distinct preferences in other procedures. For women, breast augmentation was the second most common surgery, with over 247,000 procedures performed. Men, on the other hand, opted for breast reduction as their second choice, with more than 21,000 operations.

The popularity of liposuction extends beyond U.S. borders, ranking as the most performed surgical cosmetic procedure worldwide, with over 2.2 million procedures in 2023. Breast augmentation follows closely behind on the global stage, with nearly 1.9 million procedures. The United States and Brazil lead in the number of cosmetic procedures performed globally, with Brazil surpassing the U.S. in surgical procedures.
