This statistic shows the results of a survey conducted in October 2013 among adult Americans on the government shutdown in the United States. The shutdown occurred because the Republicans in Congress and President Obama could not reach an agreement on the federal budget. As a result, all government services underwent a shut down pending a solution. In the worst case, this in turn can cause national bankruptcy. During this survey, 21 percent of respondents stated that the 2013 government shutdown constitutes a crisis.

The question was posed as follows: "As you may know, the Republicans in Congress and President Obama have not reached an agreement on the federal budget. As a result, the federal government has shut down all non-essential services. Do you personally view this shutdown as a crisis, as a major problem, as a minor problem or as not a problem at all?"
