In 2023, storms worldwide caused a damage of more than 100 billion U.S. dollars. The tropical storm Doksuri in Japan alone caused 25 billion U.S. dollars in economic damages. The second costliest type of natural disaster in 2023 was earthquakes, which caused a damage of over 50 billion dollars. As global warming proceeds, the intensity and frequency of several types of natural disasters are expected to cause increasing economic damage.
