North America had crude oil reserves of roughly 36 billion metric tons in 2020. Of which, 75 percent were Canada's oil reserves, including that of its oil sands deposits. The United States has one of the world's larges oil shale reserves.

* Total proved reserves of oil: generally taken to be those quantities that geological and engineering information indicates with reasonable certainty can be recovered in the future from known reservoirs under existing economic and operating conditions.
Reserves include gas condensate and natural gas liquids (NGLs) as well as crude oil.
