In 2022, there were 76 paid and free daily newspapers held by ownership groups in Canada, the majority of which were accounted for by Postmedia Network Inc./Sun Media/Brunswick News with 37 papers. Meanwhile, second-ranked ownership group Torstar Corporation held seven newspapers, down from 12 in 2018.

Postmedia Network Inc. is a Toronto-based news media company owned by Postmedia Network Canada Corp. The media conglomerate operates a portfolio of over 120 brands, including multiple national, community, and specialty newspaper publications across print, online, and mobile platforms. In 2020, Postmedia Network Canada’s revenue dropped to 508.41 million Canadian dollars, down from around 620 million the year before. Revenues from print advertising, circulation, digital, and other sources last peaked in 2016, shortly after the acquisition of tabloid media brand Sun Media.
