As of 2023, McCormick Place in Chicago was the largest convention center in U.S. territory, offering an indoor exhibition space of around 242 thousand square meters. Out of the top ten existing convention venues in the United States that year, three were located in the city of Las Vegas.
Convention centers in the United States
Convention centers are large buildings suitable for accommodating several thousand people for such events as conventions, trade shows, meetings, lectures, and concerts, among other things. As of 2022, two of the four best-rated convention centers in the U.S. were in Texas. The top spot went to the Henry B. González Convention center in San Antonio. Regarding sustainability, however, California excels, having three centers in the top six. The Moscone Center in San Francisco had the highest of all the green scores.
Convention centers worldwide
On a global scale, the McCormick Place was placed eleventh in 2020, between the French Paris-Nord Villepinte and the Spanish Fira Barcelona – Gran Via. At that time, the largest center worldwide was National Exhibition and Convention center (NECC) Shanghai, in China. The NECC has over 430 million square feet of space, almost double that of the McCormick.
