* Data were taken from the 2011 Global R&D Funding Forecast, R&D Magazine and Battelle, December 2010. R&D Magazine/Battelle
surveyed corporate and academic research leaders on the perceived leaders in life science technologies and
found that the U.S. is viewed as the leader across the board in health/biopharmaceutical technologies compared with four benchmark nations, three of which represent nations with well-established
biopharmaceutical sectors (Germany, Japan, and the UK) and the fourth is China.
