This statistic shows the average adjusted gross income (AGI) of high-income taxpayers (those with an AGI of over 1 million U.S. dollars per year, but excluding the 400 richest Americans) from 2000 to 2009. In the graph you can see a breakdown of the main sources of their income. In 2009, on average 17 percent of the total AGI of those with an income of more than 1 million U.S. dollars per year, was earned through capital gains.
