This statistic presents the findings of a telephone survey conducted in the United States among 1,017 adults. The survey was conducted between July 26 and 30, 2012. Some 88 percent of respondents explained they were concerned about possible shortages of safe drinking water in the United States.

The original question ran as follows: "I am going to go through a list of possible harmful impacts in the United States as a result of drought and shortages brought on by the diversion of water for energy production and other purposes. How concerned are you about each of the following?"
