The statistic shows the U.S. transportation sector's carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions from selected fuels in 2015 with projections to 2050. It is estimated that some 72 million metric tons of CO2 will be produced by the use of natural gas in the U.S. transportation sector in 2050.
Transportation sector energy-related carbon dioxide emissions in the U.S. from 2015 to 2050, by fuel (in million metric tons)*
* Figures after 2015 forecasts and are based on a business-as-usual trend estimate, given known technology and technological and demographic trends. Emissions from the electric power sector are distributed to the end-use sectors. Petroleum includes carbon dioxide from international bunker fuels, both civilian and military, which are excluded from the accounting of carbon dioxide emissions under the United Nations convention. Natural gas includes pipeline fuel natural gas and natural gas used as vehicle fuel.
